With the exception of the last semester, other undergraduate and graduate exams will be canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said here on Wednesday.
With the exception of the final semester exams, students who have paid fees for subjects related to other semesters and are waiting for exams will be exempted from the exam and given grades, he said.
Palaniswami accepted the students’ request, taking into account their well-being and following the recommendations of a high-level committee. The decision has been made, Palaniswami said in a statement.
The move is also in line with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education.
Palaniswami said he directed the Department of Higher Education to issue a detailed government ordinance on the matter.
UG students in the first and second year of their college, arts and science studies as well as the first, second and third year of their engineering degree were exempted from taking their semester exams and were allowed to move from Palaniswami to the next academic year on July 23.
Similarly, first-year doctoral students from the fields of art, science and technology as well as first-year and second-year MCA students received the exemption and were allowed to advance into the next year.
