Visva Bharati University will hold the final exam this month. The heads of various bhavanas (departments) have been told to choose the modalities for carrying out the tests, the institution said in a statement.
The central university will follow the UGC report in order to complete the mandatory final exam by September 30, it said.
At a meeting of the Executive Council it was decided to put the headmasters of various bhavanas in charge of “choosing the type of examination and following UGC norms”. Authorities also urged school principals to take into account the views of department heads, faculties and students and to determine what other key universities were doing in such a situation, the university said Tuesday.
“Directors will consult the HODs and faculty members to develop the grading system they deem appropriate in such exceptional circumstances. It was also stressed that when developing a mode, the views of the students received by the administration should also be taken into account, in addition to assessing the modes already preferred by other central universities in the country, ”the statement said.
The statement alleged that Visva-Bharati, a central university, will strictly adhere to the August 28 Supreme Court ruling that the final exam should be completed by September 30, 2020 under UGC rules.
The SC had also said that if a state had problems completing exams by September 30th, they should open the matter with UGC and set another date, but still need to complete the semester’s closing process.
In another resolution, the EC decided that Visva Bharati would soon start operating normally according to the centre’s standard Covid protocols, but did not provide a date.
The university has been closed indefinitely since August 17 after a mob protesting the fencing of Poush Mela grounds destroyed the Visva Bharati property. Later in a statement, the university said it was resuming “basic activities” in the interests of students, where faculty and other staff would work online from home. PTI SUS RG RG
