Ludhiana: A national e-brainstorming session on “Pre-Mid-Post-Covid-19 Challenges for Dairy Farmers / Entrepreneurs” was organized by the Department of Dairy Technology of the College of Dairy Science and Technology at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana. This session was part of the RKVY project entitled “Increasing Farmers’ Profitability Through Value Creation and Entrepreneurship Development. It was led by Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Research Director and Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean of the College of Dairy Science and Technology.
A total of 16 farmers from four states, H. Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu, as well as 09 specialists from Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and Gujarat attended the meeting. The session was led by Dr. S. Sivakumar, Head, Secretary for Dairy Technology and Organization, started with an introductory speech. The panel discussions were led by Co-Orgainzing Secretary Dr. Sunil Kumar and the rapporteurs Dr. Rekha Chawla and Venus Bansal coordinated. Dairy entrepreneurs / farmers asked questions related to the manufacture of dairy products, the extension of the shelf life of dairy products, the sale of e-portals, functional foods, etc. Atanu Jana from SMC College of Dairy Science, Anand (Gujarat), Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, SGIDT, BASU, Patna and experts from the host institute answered farmers’ questions and highlighted and introduced new variants / products in the Covid 19 scenario. Dr. K. Ponnusamy of ICAR-NDRI, Karnal, also clarified questions from farmers related to the establishment of self-help groups (SHG). The discussion on animal husbandry practices and nutritional strategies to avoid thermal shocks was led by Dr. Sandeep Kaswan or Dr. Jaswinder Singh held. Venus Bansal presented the participants, officers and experts with the vote of thanks for the success of the event.
