Vet Varsity appoints new deans from various universities

Ludhiana: The board of directors of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana (GADVASU) approved the appointment of deans of various colleges. The board took the names of Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman as Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences GADVASU, Dr. Manish Kumar Chatli as Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences, Rampur Phul (Bathinda), Dr. Meera D Ansal as Dean, College of Fisheries and Dr. YPS Malik as Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology.

Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman will serve as Dean of the College of Veterinary Science on the GADVASU campus. He recently completed his four-year tenure as head of the GADVASU university hospital complex. Since joining the Department of Veterinary Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and subsequently GADVASU as an assistant professor, he has over 25 years of experience in teaching, research and expansion. He received his doctorate as Dr. Degree in Animal Reproduction from the University of Liverpool, UK on a Commonwealth Scholarship. He was involved in 21 research projects. His research was recognized by the National Society on Animal Reproduction, the Fellowship of the Society in 2018 with nine Best Paper Awards and 27 Young Scientists Awards at various conferences. He has 12 review articles, 56 international, 134 national scientific publications, 74 invited articles, 53 books, monographs, manuals, and 133 popular articles on his merit.

Dr. Manish Kumar Chatli, a CCS veterinary graduate from Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, will serve as dean of the College of Veterinary Science at Rampura Phul. He received his PhD from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly. He holds a postgraduate degree in meat proteomics from the University of Kentucky, Lexington. For the past 8 years he has been Head of the Animal Products Department. He has set up various laboratories and pilot processing units at GADVASU Ludhiana with a mobilization of funds totaling more than 7 crores and successfully worked as Principal Investigator on 14 projects funded by various national agencies. He transferred 19 Technologies for entrepreneurs. He set up the poultry processing plant as a model for generating revenue in the public-private partnership mode. He has given more than 50 invited lectures and published 2 patents, 8 books, 20 book chapters, 46 manuals / compendia / research reports and more than 158 research publications in the journal of national and international repute.

Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Head of Aquaculture Department at GADVASU’s College of Fisheries, has been elected Dean of the College of Fisheries. After completing the M.Sc. and Ph.D. From the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) she joined PAU in 1999 as an Assistant Professor (Fisheries) and has made a significant contribution to teaching, research, expansion and institutional development. She has led 10 M.F.Sc./Ph.D students and taught more than 20 UG / PG courses. As part of the ICAR’s renowned niche project “Niche Area of ​​Excellence”, she was instrumental in the development of aquaculture in saline fallow land in the southwest of the state and was awarded the “Best Success Story” prize by the Indian Ecological Society. She is currently working on the development of Climate Smart Aquaculture Technologies. With 11 R&D projects and more than 200 publications, Dr. Meera awarded the Indian Ecological Society’s Honorary Fellowship.

Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik is an ICAR National Fellow at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI). Izatnagar India becomes Dean of the College of Animal Biotechnology. A graduate of the CCS Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar, he has extensive experience in veterinary microbiology and biotechnology. He holds a PhD in molecular virology from the University of Minnesota, USA, and advanced training in virology from the University of Ottawa, Canada, and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, China. Well traveled Dr. Malik is a member of the International Virus Taxonomy Committee (ICTV) and a member of the Executive Committee of the World Virology Society (USA). The recipient of the renowned ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award, Dr. Malik, has developed several technologies and diagnostic kits and has two national patents. He has authored 7 books and published around 227 scientific research articles in highly influential journals.
