The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a statement on July 23, 2020, stating that 603 universities “have already completed” or “are planning” final exams.
UGC’s comments even came when the Supreme Court heard a petition against the new UGC guidelines that require universities to “pass” exams for undergraduate students. The Supreme Court will hear the matter again today, July 23.
UGC was instructed on June 26 by the Minister for Human Resources Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, to revise their previous guidelines for exams as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country did not decrease.
HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” said “Exams are essential for global acceptance” and said that the decision was made “to keep an eye on the educational interests of a large number of students”.
