MYSURU: In a big move that would likely help thousands of students who have studied at the state-owned Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the university announced that 10 non-request BE courses are the same as their peer courses that are in great demand. For example, the university announced that BE are equivalent in industrial production and in mechanical engineering, in automotive engineering and in toolmaking, in mechanical engineering. Likewise, BE in the areas of traffic engineering, structural engineering and management as well as environmental technology correspond to BE in civil engineering. “It’s a big step that is expected to help many students,” the university authorities said.
According to the university’s vice chancellor, Karisiddappa, graduates who have problems due to the course name can contact the university for an equivalent certificate.
According to the sources, the proposal on this is old. “There have been complaints that some mid-career graduates have been unable to climb the corporate ladder due to the course name. There has been a suggestion over the past three years,” said an official from the technical education department.
“Many courses share the same curriculum and teaching method, although the course names were different. Now these courses are being advertised as being equivalent,” said Karisiddappa.
