The Tamil Nadu cabinet approves a quota of 7.5 percent for students in state schools at medical schools

On July 14, 2020, the Cabinet Tamil Nadu approved the provision of a quota of 7.5 percent under the existing reservation for medical UG courses for students of state upper secondary level.

The “quota within the quota” also covers government seats in private universities, official sources said.
This applies to students who pass the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).
Tamil Nadu had previously requested an exemption from NEET, which has been heavily rejected by political parties, including the DMK, citing student welfare, particularly from rural areas.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat, also decided to give immediate approval to six companies that have proposed an estimated 5,000 rupee investment to Tamil Nadu.
