Only two Indian universities have made it into the top 400 in the world in the recently published 2021 World Ranking of British Higher Education (THE). A total of 63 universities in the country have qualified for this ranking, 14 universities more than in the previous year. It was the highest in terms of university qualification in the ranking.
IISc Bangalore is number one in the country
Two institutes in India that have made the ranking are the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. IIT Ropar was ranked 351-400 in the world while IISc Bangalore was ranked in a group of 301-350. In this way, IISc Bangalore has secured the first position in the country and IIT Ropar the second position.
7 IITs boycott the ranking
At the same time, three institutions in the country were included in this ranking together with IIT Indore last year. IIT Indore was included in the 401-500 bracket while 15 universities in India made it into the 600-800 bracket. Previously, the country’s top seven IITs boycotted the Times Higher Education world rankings and questioned transparency.
Britain’s Oxford University topped
More than 1,500 universities from 93 countries worldwide were included in this ranking. The UK’s Oxford University came first, Stanford University second and Harvard University third. At the same time, Tsinghua University of China was declared the best in Asia with 20th place.
