While most parents urge their children to study hard for the Maharashtra State Board’s exams, Bebi Gurav, who lives in Baramati, set a good example by appearing for the exam with her son and passed out with flying colors.
The 36-year-old secured 64.40 percent, while her 16-year-old son Sadanand achieved 73.20 percent in the secondary school exam, the results of which were announced on July 29.
“I was unable to complete my school education because of my marriage at a very young age. But my husband encouraged me to come to class 10 with my son, ”said Bebi, who works for a cloth factory.
The woman’s husband, Pradip Gurav, and her son helped her learn and drove her to become an SSC passout.
“Both my wife and son learned hard together and got good grades. I am happy and proud of their performance, ”said Gurav, a journalist for a regional daily.
Bebi carried her textbooks to work and study during the breaks and revised grammar, math, and other subjects with her son while cooking meals for the family.
With her newly won self-confidence, Bebi is now targeting the Higher Secondary School Certificate or the Class 12 exam.
