While it was 2.25% in 2015-16, it dropped to 0.68% in the 2019-20 session. That means there is a reduction of up to 70 percent. Only 910 students, including all IITs, dropped out during this session. Between 2017 and 2019 there were 92 dropouts from all courses at IIT Patna. While all IITs dropped out 2400 students. Identify the weak yourself in the first year
The Deputy Dean at IIT Patna, Dr. Subrata Kumar said that the peer group, mentors and faculty members take care of the students here. Weak students are identified at the end of their first year and it is recommended that the program be slowed down. So that they can understand how things are. He said that faculty advisors assigned to students are very good at tracking student progress and performance. Every student is looked after. He also said that we have an initial but rigorous induction program to prepare new students for life at IITs.
The language laboratory is designed to teach students English
The biggest problem with early school leavers in IITs was English. The students had many problems due to English. Dr. Meghna Dutta, a professor of public relations at IIT Patna, said we had a language laboratory for students. Students are first trained in English. After that it is easy for them to understand the lecture. We have a wellness center. Center Incharge attends special sessions to keep students mentally healthy for 4 years.
More early school leavers in PG and PhD
Further dropouts from UG were seen in PG and PhD courses. To tackle this time, a portal to accept joint offers was set up to centralize the gate-based recruitment process. This portal connects power supplies, candidates and institutes. Many MTech seats remain vacant in IITs every year. IITs had blamed the uncontrolled entry process of public sector companies as the main reason for the termination.
