In order to meet the challenges of the changing work environment and impart skills that are required for future jobs, leading institutes in the country are starting courses in the various new age technologies such as AI, ML, data science and digital HR.

“The uncertainty caused by the pandemic has resulted in a sudden change in jobs in recent months. Organized and efficient use of data is of vital importance today. There is a growing need for ways to use such large amounts of data for the benefit of the organization and its employees, ”said Himanshu Rai, director of IIM Indore.

In order to develop an efficient method for data management and fact-based decision-making, IIM Indore has started a certification program for people analytics and digital HR in cooperation with the Jigsaw Academy. The course is designed to provide a platform for solving various business issues related to employee engagement, hiring, learning, and development, says Rai.

“With the change in workforce demographics, the future of HR is changing dramatically. Digital HR would also have tools to manage the remote workforce, ”he adds.

At IIT Madras, the institute has launched an online BSc degree in Programming and Data Science for aspirants across the country. The program is offered at the basic, diploma and final level. Learners get access to four-week course content in math, English, statistics, and computer thinking. Candidates will be shortlisted for the course after they complete the qualifying exam following four-week online training and online assignment submission.

“Since the start 50 days ago, more than five Lakh-Unique users have been registered on the online study website. As of August 8, over 16,000 learners have applied for the online qualification process, ”says Andrew Thangaraj, coordinator of NPTEL-IIT Madras.

Demand among working people

Thangaraj emphasizes the increasing demand from the workforce for such courses, adding, “Almost 30% of the learners who applied for the qualification process are professionals from various sectors such as banking, IT, manufacturing, automotive, etc. Data science is one of them World Economic Forum expects data analyst and scientist to become top emerging positions by 2022. ”

New world order

To equip professionals with future-proof skills, IIT Roorkee has also launched new online programs and certification courses for Advanced Certification in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) as well as Certification in Data Science. The programs are launched in collaboration with Coursera.

“The prospects for skilled workers trained in these areas will be positive, especially after the end of the global pandemic. The serious disruption of supply chains during the crisis and the new world order after the Covid-19 will require a change in the way companies operate, which will lead to the growth of these professionals, ”says Inderdeep Singh, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, IIT Roorkee.
