President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak via video conference ahead of the opening session of the governors’ conference on national education policy on Monday, the prime minister’s office said. The conference, entitled “Role of NEP-2020 in transforming higher education” is organized by the Ministry of Education. Education ministers from all states, vice-chancellors of state universities and other high-ranking officials also attend the governors’ conference.
The statement stated that the NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century, announced in 1986 after 34 years of the previous national education policy. The NEP-2020 aims for comprehensive reforms both in schools and in higher education from level.
“The new national education policy aims to make India a just and lively knowledge society. It envisages an India-focused education system that is directly helping to transform India into a global superpower, “it said. It added that the sweeping transformation the NEP is seeking will bring about a paradigm shift in the country’s education system and create an empowering and revitalized educational ecosystem for a new “Atmanirbhar Bharat” as envisaged by the Prime Minister. Various webinars, virtual conferences and conclaves on various aspects of the National Education Policy 2020 are being organized across the country.
The Commission of the Ministry of Education and University Scholarships had previously organized a “Conclave on Transformation Reforms in Higher Education in the Framework of National Education Policy 2020”, which Modi mentioned.
