The Odisha government today asked all state state universities and autonomous colleges to hold the final semester exams for Under Graduate and Post Graduate (PG) classes in the state by October 10, after asking the University Grants Commission to set the deadline for the completion of all final exams to extend semester exams.
The higher education department announced in a resolution that all state public universities and autonomous universities would have to take the UG and PG exams for the last semester / year between September 20 and October 10.
The UGC had previously set a deadline of September 30th, which, according to the state government, will be difficult to meet due to the Covid and flood situation in Odisha. The state government said in a letter to UGC that the extension of the deadline will ensure the scheduling of exams at least one day apart so that the exam centers can be properly refurbished and reasonable precautionary measures are followed as per the Covid protocols.
The department said that upcoming backpaper exams from UG and PG students in the final semester would also need to be completed quickly in accordance with the revised UGC policy. If necessary, tests can also be carried out on public holidays.
The ordinance states that the results of the UG and PG examinations of the last semester / year, including the exams in paper form, must be published by October 31. Special exams would be held for those unable to take the final exams for whatever reason. However, these special exams will be carried out by the universities and autonomous colleges as soon as the situation in Covid-19 improves.
In order to conduct examinations in physical mode, the department said the standard operating protocol that was communicated in the HRD ministry’s office memorandum dated July 2020 must be followed.
