odisha cet 2020: Application process for the Odisha Common PG Entrance Test is expected to start in a week
BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department is expected to begin the Common PG Entrance Test application process within a week. The department will conduct this test for the first time in the state. Students will take a common entrance test for admission to PG courses at state public universities and autonomous colleges.

“An advertisement announcing student applications for the Common PG Entrance Test is expected to be published within a week. The application process is already being delayed due to the Covid 19 pandemic,” said Asoka Kumar Das, vice chairman of the Odisha State Higher Education Council.

In April, Secretary of State Arun Kumar Sahoo spoke to Vice Chancellors of state public universities about the test. Another meeting recently took place to complete the pre-advertising process of submitting applications for the entrance test.

According to sources, students of the last semester / academic year (UG) can apply for the test. The result of the final exam is not required to apply or sit for the entrance exam. The results of the final examination are required when compiling the list of services or the rank for admission to the PG courses.

“The department plans to allow students seven days before the earnings list is published to fill in the results of the final exams of the last semester / year. The earnings list is created with 30 points for the career brand and 70 points for the exam.” said a university department official.

Although the date of the entrance test has not yet been determined, the department plans to do so after reviewing the Covid 19 situation in the state. The test depends on the Supreme Court hearing ruling against the University Grants Commission (UGC) decision to hold university exams by September 30 last year. The hearing of the case was postponed until August 10.

On June 11, the state government canceled the final exams for UG and PG students and applied an alternative assessment method for the publication of the final results. However, in the revised UGC guidelines of July 6, universities were asked to hold the exams until September 30. The government of Odisha has also asked the center not to make the UG and PG final exams compulsory. This has caused confusion as to whether the test is being carried out or not. For this reason, the date of the Common PG Entrance Test has not yet been set.

The common entrance test puts all universities on a single platform, and students fill out a single form and take an entrance test for all state universities. After the appearance of this one test, the students are given a seat at one of the state universities, depending on their eligibility and admission requirements.

Currently, a student must submit application forms for each university separately and appear on multiple dates for multiple entrance exams. It was hectic and boring. However, this system saves students from having to apply and appear separately for different universities for admission tests.
