Amid concerns over the growing cases of coronavirus, NTA released a statement Tuesday that the NEET exam will take place on September 13 as planned. The agency also said that holding the exam was in the students’ best interests.

“At the request of the students, the JEE (Main) and NEET (UG), which were supposed to take place earlier in July, have been postponed to September 2020,” NTA said in the statement. The NTA also cited the August 17 Supreme Court ruling denying the students’ request to postpone the NEET and JEE exams (main exams): “We find that the prayer for postponing the exam in question contains absolutely no justification in relation to NEET UG-2020 and JEE (Main) April 2020. ”

NTA has also released a detailed protocol for running NEET UG 2020 amid the pandemic. Under the new protocol, candidates will be given staggered reporting time slots to reduce the crowd in the exam centers. All employees are tested with thermal guns at the entry points, and those who have symptoms of fever or Covid-19 are placed in a separate isolation room. Body pat frisking is avoided and candidates are only screened with metal detectors. Manual presence with signature is taken and thumbprints are avoided.

NTA has also increased the number of centers from 2546 to 3843 and reduced the number of candidates in each room from 24 to 12.

In the meantime, the admission card for the JEE main exam has already been approved and 85% of candidates have downloaded it. JEE Main takes place from September 1st to 6th.
