47 teachers from across the country were presented with the National Teachers’ Award by President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday for making learning that fun, simplifying math and developing innovative teaching methods.
The national awards are presented on Teachers Day to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the best teachers in the country and to honor those teachers who, through their commitment, have not only improved the quality of schooling but also enriched the lives of their students.
“Good buildings, expensive equipment or facilities don’t make a good school, but teachers play a crucial role in building a good school. They are the ones who develop the basis for knowledge and character building in our students, ”said Kovind at the virtual award ceremony.
The president praised the role of teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic when schools and colleges are closed and said, “We must also ensure that the medium for the use of digital educational institutions is also available in rural and remote areas.” The Ministry of Education invited the teachers themselves to nominate for the awards via the online portal. The first level review was conducted by the District Selection Committee (DSC) under the direction of the District Education Officer. On the basis of prescribed selection criteria, DSC shortlisted three names and forwarded them to the State Selection Committee via an online portal. This year the candidates appeared before the jury by video conference and gave presentations. “The selected award winners with their dedication and industry have not only improved the quality of school education, but also the lives of their students and the community through various activities such as improving enrollment and reducing school dropouts, and introducing joyful and experiential teaching and learning Enriching learning practices.
