National Reading Day is celebrated on June 19 every year in honor of the late PN Panicker, father of the Library Movement in Kerala. To mark the 25th day of reading this year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed all of its schools to celebrate the day of reading on June 19. In the midst of the Corona crisis, special attention is paid to reading technology. In this case, as with online classes, the reading day is now also celebrated online. This is followed by the reading week and then the reading month from June 19 to July 18.
Work for digital reading
All educational institutions are currently closed due to the spread of the corona virus in the country. In such a situation, the help of the digital platform is used to continue the education of children. In this order, the PN Panicker Foundation worked in collaboration with the government for digital reading. For this purpose, the PN Panicker Foundation proposed to the students quiz questions, open art, writing essays and debates. The PN Panicker Foundation has also proposed some reading activities for students. History of the National Reading Day
P.N. Panicker was born on March 1st, 1909 in Neelampur, where father Govinda Pillai and mother Janaki Amma lived. He is known as the father of the Kerala library movement. In 1926, Panicker founded the Sanatan Dharma Library as a teacher in his hometown. He died on June 19. After that, the day of his death was celebrated every year as a national reading day.
Central Education launched campaign
Earlier, Minister of Human Resources Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ had launched a social media campaign called #MyBookMyFriend on World Book Day. The aim was to motivate the students to read. Once this campaign started, many well-known celebrities who are part of the campaign shared what book they were reading on social media. April 23 is celebrated each year as World Book Day.
