Assam’s Minister of Education, Himanta Biswa Sarma, praised the new National Education Policy (NEP) on Saturday and said it would revolutionize the country’s education system.
“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the new national education policy. The system can now be divided into four stages. The Assam government welcomes the new education policy. It will revolutionize the country’s education system, ”Sarma said in a press conference here.
He said the state government is setting up a 40-person committee to study the implementation of the national education policy in Assam, adding that they will be operational within a week.
“I hope that the committee will present its recommendations by December 31st. Under the new education policy, no pupil up to the age of 12 will be deprived of education. They will be equipped with all facilities, ”said the minister.
Sarma also said the state government is considering a proposal to open schools in Assam from September 1, adding that teachers will need a COVID-19 test between August 23 and 30.
“We plan to open the schools from September 1st, but the final decision will be made by the central government. COVID-19 testing is mandatory for teachers from August 23-30. Schools up to grade 4 remain closed, ”he added.
