NEW DELHI: The Cabinet of the Union on Wednesday approved the creation of a National Personnel Agency aiming to abolish multiple entrance exams with a single online Common Eligibility Test (CET).

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the move will not only make it easier to hire, select and place jobs, but will ultimately improve the quality of life.

“There will be at least 1000 centers, one in each district, where candidates can take the test. The measure will immensely help the candidates from the remote and hilly areas, and especially the girl candidates, and save valuable time and resources. The NRA will ab will come into effect next year and will be headquartered in Delhi. State governments are also advised to come on board in a spirit of cooperative federalism, “he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted that the NRA “will prove to be a blessing for many youngsters”. “The Common Eligibility Test eliminates multiple tests and saves valuable time and resources. This will also greatly improve transparency, ”he said in his tweet.

What is the National Recruitment Agency (NRA)?

The NRA is a multi-agency body that includes the first-level test of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), and the Institute of Banking Service Personnel (IBPS). The CET reviews / selects candidates for the (non-technical) positions in groups B and C. The NRA carries out a separate CET for the three levels of candidates for university graduates, higher secondary school (12th cycle) and matriculation (10th cycle) for those non-technical positions for which SSC, RRBs and IBPS are currently hiring.

When are NRA CETs held?

The NRA will come into force next year and will be headquartered in Delhi. The government announced that over 1,000 centers, one in each district, will be set up for candidates to take the test.

How many CET are carried out per year?

The National Personnel Agency conducts two tests per year and candidates’ CET results remain valid for three years from the date the result is announced. The best of the valid ratings is considered the candidate’s current rating.

Will there be a try limit for NRA CET?

No, there is no limit to the number of times a candidate can try to appear in CET, subject to the upper age limit.

What happens after the NRA CET result has been declared?

On the basis of the screening carried out at the CET score level, the final selection for recruitment is made through separate specialized examination levels (II, III, etc.) carried out by the respective recruitment agencies. The curriculum for this test would be as common as the standard.
