On August 26th, IIT-Delhi had applied for dog handlers and the notice stated that the eligibility criteria were B.A / B.Sc / B.Com / B.Tech or an equivalent bachelor’s degree. This led to a social media storm.
In a statement published on September 6, the institute said: “With regard to a job advertisement dated August 26, 2020 for a position entitled ‘Dog Handler’ (on a purely contractual basis), IIT Delhi would like to clarify that the minimum qualification as in the advertisement mentioned was accidentally copied from another job advertisement. ”
The qualification provided for in the ad was “Bachelor of Veterinary Science”. The hiring process was canceled after the error was brought to the attention of the higher authorities.
“In due course, a new process will be initiated to recruit a consultant (on a purely contractual basis) with an appropriate minimum qualification required for the job description and which includes the proper care (and medical assistance for them) of large numbers of stray dogs on campus such as vaccinations), medicine, IV fluids etc and food), dealing with problems and challenges related to stray dogs, liaising with students of the campus community, staff, construction workers etc, local government agencies and NGOs, “the statement reads.
