Amid doubts about effective internships for engineering students in 2020-21 due to the pandemic situation, Bhubaneswar, IIT is receiving the first set of Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs).
An official announcement from the institute said the upcoming recruiting season is very encouraging as companies like Microsoft, DeShaw, Goldman Sachs, GEP Solutions and others are using this route more often to better assess candidates over longer periods of time and in real-world situations.
The companies make pre-placement offers based on the performance of the candidates who have interned with them.
The leading institute recorded an increase in PPOs this year, with the offers received already matching the overall offers of last year, and will replace the institute director R.V. Said Raja Kumar.
Offers up to Rs 43 LPA CTC (lakh per year, cost to the business) have already been received, he said, adding that most of them are from core industries and are broad, which indicates a healthy trend.
PPOs point to a positive mediation scenario despite the pandemic that has affected the global economy, he said.
Kumar said that although new internships have found Bhubaneswar even better than some of the older IITs, the IIT Bhubaneswar and none of the offers have been canceled, which is a testament to the standard of its education.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the institute’s placement season begins on October 31, 2020 in online mode.
Moving campus placements to virtual mode will be the trend increasing safety and convenience, and will look promising despite the ecosystem facing economic downturn due to the pandemic, he added.
