Four crore scholarships for minority EWS, 54% for girls

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Minority Affairs of the Union has informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that since 2014-15 to date over four Crore scholarships have been distributed to the students of the economically weaker sections (EWS) of the minority communities. Of these, 54 percent were given to female students.

The information was given by Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in ​​the House of Lords on Monday.

The ministry is introducing various welfare systems to strengthen the socio-economic and educational aspects of six centrally reported minority communities, namely Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Muslims, Parsis and Sikhs.

For the period 2015-16 to 2019-20, the total budget allocated to the Ministry of Minority Affairs was Rs 21,160.84 billion and the actual expenditure was Rs 19,201.45 billion, which is approximately 90.75 percent of the total allocated budget .

Since 2014-15, a total of 4,00,06,080 scholarships have been distributed to the students of the economically weaker sections of the minority communities, with a total of 11,690.81 rupees being spent.

Rs 9,223.68 billion were spent on granting scholarships to 3.06.19.546 beneficiaries under various Ministry’s scholarship programs in the period from 2015-16 to 2019-20, of which about 54 percent were given to the minority student.
