MITE, Moodbidri was selected by AICTE-ATAL to organize a funded five-day faculty development program for faculty members from AICTE-recognized technical institutions, research scientists and PG scientists across the country. The FDP was carried out by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which is also accredited by the NBA. Technical experts, academics from IIT, scientists from IISC, researchers from various academic institutions, and industry experts from various fields attended the event as keynote speakers and panel members.
The aim of this faculty development program was to introduce faculty members, practicing engineers, and graduate students to the concepts of recent advances in renewable energy technology. The FDP dealt with current research trends on renewable energy sources, solar photovoltaics and wind energy conversion systems, solar cells, solar modules, design and installation of solar photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, energy storage systems, system controls for solar photovoltaic and wind turbines. Micro-grid components, modeling of energy storage systems, modeling of hybrid renewable energy systems and energy management strategies in intelligent micro-grids. The FDP managed to bring together experts from the fields of power engineering, energy management, manufacturing and materials to take stock of current knowledge, share information and best practices, and reach a consensus on the measures that are most needed for further development.
The sanctioning of the FDP by AICTE-ATAL on the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering proved the consistent and sustained evidence of excellence in the care of students in accordance with the requirements of the industry. In addition, the department recently won first prize in the VTU project competition, first place with 11 gold medals from VTU Belagavi in 2019-2020 and the “best project of the year” in 2018 and 2019 from the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).
