Covid-19: UGC asks educational institutions and research institutes to use RT-PCR devices in district hospitals and laboratories

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education and research institutions to facilitate the use of RT-PCR testing equipment in nearby district hospitals and government laboratories running Covid-19 testing to help fight the pandemic, officials said on Monday with.

The Higher Education Authority has determined that the temporary use of such machines can create additional facilities for around 60,000 tests per day.

“In order to meet the increasing demand for Covid-19 tests, it is important that the test centers are further strengthened by the addition of additional RT-PCR devices. There are a large number of devices available at educational and research institutions in various departments that can perform RT-PCR tests and are not currently used in any critical area, ”said UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain.

“It was made clear that temporary use of such machines in district hospitals and state laboratories could create additional testing facilities with around 60,000 tests per day.

“With this in mind, all higher education and research institutions are asked to facilitate the temporary use of machines from the institutes in consultation with the Department of Health Research in district hospitals and government laboratories that are running Covid-19 tests by August 31,” he added .
