Chitkara University students win the prestigious 2020 national innovation award

Chandigarh (Punjab) India, Chitkara University students have won the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) award -2020 in the field of agricultural innovation making it the only non-IIT, NIT and IISc institution to have it on made the price list.

The prestigious Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) 2020 award was given to the MOKSH team from Chitkara University for successfully marketing the rice stubble management machine in the field. The machine is designed to successfully eliminate the need to burn rice stubble in the field. The machine is designed to provide farmers with a viable and commercial solution to maintain soil fertility and counteract the increased pollution levels during the burning of rice stubble in September and October.

The MOKSH team, consisting of the students of Chitkara University Varinder Singh, Amrinder Singh and Gurditt Singh from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the support of Nitika Dhingra from the Research and Innovation Network of Chitkara University (CURIN), received this award under the direction of Dr . Nitin K Saluja. Associate Director Research (CURIN).

Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) AwardsThe company, established by SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions), includes three national awards for innovative student projects in engineering and biotechnology, agriculture, pharmacy, materials science and other applied technological fields. These awards recognize the spirit of student innovation in engineering, science, technology, and design through extremely affordable / economical solutions or those that drive technological edge.

These awards are presented each year during the Festival for Innovation (FOIN) at Rashtrapati Bhawan in March.

With a focus on (but not limited to) innovations that affect grassroots communities, promoting collaboration with grassroots innovators, manufacturable technologies to save or generate energy, sanitation, water treatment, saving material usage, biotechnology and medical devices, diagnostics and these awards are Aids for the physically challenged and attracting contributions from the country’s most extraordinary innovators.

The MOKSH team has already brought laurels to Chitkara University and India by receiving recognitions, awards and a special mention on the global platform when the U.S. Embassy in India tweeted about the product, which was the first title for the country Science and Technology (GIST), organized by the American Association for Advancement of Sciences, won Global Innovation. Previously, the innovation was recognized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) – Lockheed Martin US, Government of India – India Innovation Growth Program. The product also won the first award at the Ingenuity – 2020 global innovation event in China and a cash reward of 200,000 yen.
