50% of the Chandigarh Education Department employees asked to report to work
CHANDIGARH: Education Minister Sarpreet Singh Gill re-mandated on Tuesday that only 50% of staff should show up for work in both Sector 9 and 19 offices as of Wednesday after TOI highlighted how the education department’s negligence allegedly helped Covid-19 had spread.

Gill, who was recently charged, told TOI, “Instructions have been given and offices have been refurbished. I asked people to get tested. We will take all necessary precautions. ”

The orders read: “The director’s school and higher education office in an additional luxury building, Sector 9, the District Education Supervisor’s office in Sector 19, and the RUSA office in Sector 42, should have 50% staff.”

The orders go on to say: “Employees who may be uncomfortable should not visit offices and should be tested for Covid-19 by GMSH-16 or GMCH-32. Officials who have been in close contact with those who have reported positive are also advised to get tested. ”

The orders said that Alka Mehta, deputy director, would also oversee the work of the district education officer until further appointment.
